Today, May 1, 2011 I did some practice of prime focus photography through my 10-inch Meade SCT telescope. I mounted the Canon 300D directly to the SCT port of the telescope and took images with varying exposure times. The camera was on ISO-1600. This is a stack of 8 images total (3 x 1/30s and 5 x 1/100s). As expected, no details are visible in the final image of Saturn but I got some experience with prime focus astrophotography. The most important lesson is that my deck in the backyard is not stable enough for longer exposures.
