Part of IC 1396 (including Elephant's Trunk Nebula)

I purchased a used Celestron Nexstar 102 SLT optical tube assembly (FL=660mm, Aperture 102mm, f/6.5) and mounted it on my Astrozap mount. This OTA has a thread that allows to connect SLR cameras via a simple T-Mount. So I connected my Canon Rebel XT (350D) and took a couple of images. Here is an image of a section of the emission nebula IC 1396 that sometimes is also considered an open star cluster. The nebula is located in the constellation Cepheus. This image is a stack of 12 images (1x30s, 1x90s, 10x105s) for a total exposure time of 19 min and 30 sec. Processed using DeepSkyStacker and post-processed in Nebulosity. The focal length of the 102 SLT is too long to capture the whole nebula. Next time I try piggy backing the camera und using a f/2.8, 135 mm Minolta Rokkor lens. Taken on November 17, 2011.
